In a recent development, two Nigerian women, Adaeze Jaye, aged 43, and Success Chamika, aged 23, found themselves in the custody of Pushkar police in the state of Rajasthan, India, on Friday, October 27, 2023. The cause of their arrest was their alleged possession of drugs, a crime that raised concerns in the region.
Carefully Orchestrated Operation Leads to Significant Drug Seizure
Law enforcement authorities carried out a meticulous operation, leading to the apprehension of the two women. During the operation, a substantial quantity of drugs valued at over N63 million was discovered in their possession. Specifically, the confiscated drugs consisted of 65 grams of Mephedrone (MD), a synthetic substance known for its potent stimulant and psychoactive effects.
Substantial Cash and Weighing Machine Confiscated
In addition to the narcotics, the authorities uncovered a considerable amount of cash, totaling Rs 65,000. This discovery further deepened suspicions about the women’s involvement in drug-related activities. The presence of a digital weighing machine among their possessions suggested a possible role in drug distribution.
Estimated Value of Seized Narcotics
The seized drugs, primarily Mephedrone, colloquially known as “MD” or “Meow Meow,” hold significant street value. The estimated worth of the confiscated narcotics is approximately Rs 6 lakh, as reported by the police. Mephedrone, due to its stimulating and psychoactive properties, is classified as a controlled substance in various countries, including India.
Legal Action Pursued
The Pushkar police station in-charge, Rakesh Yadav, confirmed that a case has been registered against both Adaeze Jaye and Success Chamika under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This step marks the initiation of an investigation into the alleged drug trafficking activities of the arrested individuals.
The arrests of the two Nigerian women with such a substantial quantity of drugs have underscored the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat drug-related crimes in the region. The investigation will further reveal the details of their alleged involvement in the drug trade.
